Pros

Mariners

Seattle visits the Cleveland Guardians for action at 4:10 p.m. Friday, 4:15 p.m. Saturday and 10:40 a.m. Sunday before dropping in on the Tampa Bay Rays for games at 4:35 p.m. Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday.

The Mariners stayed on the tail of the Houston Astros in the American League West pennant race by taking two of three games from the San Diego Padres on the heels of taking two of three from the Athletics of Sacramento over the weekend.

Seattle held on for a 4-3 win over the Padres in its most recent game Wednesday.

Eugenio Suarez scored the first run in the bottom of the second inning, ripping a single and stealing second ahead of an RBI double by Luke Raley.

Suarez launched a three-run home run over the fence in left field in the fourth for a 4-0 Mariners lead.

Bryan Woo threw 5.2 innings for the win, striking out six with only one walk, and Andres Munoz held on for the save in the ninth.

Seattle was coming off a 7-6 loss to the Padres the night before.

San Diego jumped out to a 5-0 lead before the Mariners rallied for six runs in the fifth to go up, 6-5, on three-run home runs by Randy Arozarena and Suarez.

But the Padres struck for two in the sixth and held on for the win.

Seattle outscored San Diego by a 9-6 score Monday.

Cal Raleigh homered in the first, his 50th of the year, and Jorge Polanco hit a two-run shot in the second.

The Mariners scored the tying run in the fourth on a bases loaded double play and struck for five runs in the fifth to win it. Josh Naylor hit an RBI single, Polanco a two-run double and J.P. Crawford a two-run single.

Seattle blasted the Athletics, 11-4, Sunday.

Raleigh hit a two-run home run in the first and Polanco started off the second with a walk and stolen base before scoring on an Arozarena double.

Raleigh followed with another two-run home run, setting a new season record for catchers with his 49th.

Seattle scored six more in the third, with Victor Robles and Julio Rodriguez hitting two-run singles and Naylor a two-run double.

Arozarena struck for the Mariners' only run on a sixth inning home run in a 2-1 loss Saturday, but they were 3-2 winners Friday.

Suarez hit a home run in the fifth and Naylor and Polanco both homered in the seventh.

Munoz recorded the save.

Seahawks

Seattle launches its new season Sunday, Sept. 7 with a 1:05 p.m. start against the San Francisco 49ers at Lumen Field.

The Seahawks took a 20-7 preseason loss at Green Bay this past Saturday.

Cody White scored a touchdown for them with 11:59 to play in the fourth quarter, snagging an 18-yard pass from Jalen Milroe.  Jason Myers kicked the extra point.

Sounders

The Seattle men's soccer team hosts Inter Miami in the Leagues Cup final at 5 p.m. this Sunday at Lumen Field.

The Sounders  scored a 2-0 victory at the home of the Los Angeles Galaxy in a semifinal Wednesday.

Pedro de la Vega struck for the first goal in the seventh minute and Osaze De Rosario punched in the other in the 57th.

Seattle was a 5-2 winner Saturday over Sporting Kansas City.

Kalani Kossa-Rienz started off the scoring in the 11th minute before Danny Musovski struck at 45+1 and 50.

Snyden Brunell scored in the 61st minute and Musovski added a penalty kick goal in the 75th. 

Storm

Seattle plays host to the Chicago Sky for 6 p.m. Saturday women's basketball action at the Climate Pledge Arena.

The Los Angeles Sparks fly in for 7 p.m. Monday action.

The Storm breezed to a 93-79 victory in its most recent game Thursday at the home of the Minnesota Lynx.

Skylar Diggins-Smith led with 23 points and tied Brittney Sykes for the lead in assists with five.  Nneka Ogwumike led with nine rebounds.

Seattle was coming off a 95-75 loss Tuesday to the Indiana Fever after edging the Washington Mystics on Sunday, 84-82.  

Reign

Seattle entertains the San Diego Wave for a 7:30 p.m. Friday women's soccer match at Lumen Field.

The Reign played the Houston Dash to a 1-1 tie Sunday.

Jordyn Huitema tallied the only Seattle goal in the 65th minute.

Rainiers

Tacoma is in El Paso for 5:35 p.m. Pacific Coast League baseball games Friday and Saturday and for 11:05 a.m. action Sunday.

The Rainiers come home to Cheney Stadium to face the Reno Aces at 6:05 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday and at 7:05 p.m. Thursday.

Aquasox

Everett entertains the Eugene Emeralds at 7:05 p.m. Friday and Saturday and 4:05 p.m. Sunday.

The Aquasox visit Vancouver for 7:05 p.m. games Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.

Colleges

Husky football

Washington kicks off its season Saturday, hosting Colorado State for an 8 p.m. game at Husky Stadium.

Cougar football

Washington State will play its opener in Pullman, getting a 7 p.m. Saturday visit from the Idaho Vandals.
