Mariners
As an old song says, Two out of three ain't bad.
That's what the Seattle Mariners accomplished in this week's three-game home series against the Chicago White Sox.
The Mariners opened with a 6-1 victory Monday, blew a 1-0 lead in the top of the ninth inning and lost by a 2-1 score Tuesday, but bounced back to post a 5-4 victory in Wednesday's finale.
Bryan Woo struck out eight and allowed no runs in six innings of work Monday and Andres Munoz came on in the ninth for the save.
Julio Rodriguez homered in the first inning to get the offense started and Randy Arozarena ripped an RBI double in the second with Josh Naylor connecting for an RBI single in the sixth.
Rookie shortstop and third baseman Colt Emerson tacked on a three-run home run in the eighth for insurance.
Insurance was what the Mariners needed more of Tuesday.
They jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first on a Patrick Wisdom grounder and held it until the ninth when they lost it on two runs. Seattle went scoreless in the bottom of the inning to come up short.
Wednesday was an impressive win for Seattle, however.
Dominic Canzone doubled in a run in the second and Wisdom doubled in another in the fourth.
Catcher Jhonny Perada hit the first Major League home run of his career into the visiting bullpen in left field in the seventh and Arozarena followed with a two-run blast to make it 5-2.
Matt Brash earned the win in relief and J.A. Ferrer recorded the save.
