Pros

Kraken

Seattle picked up a pair of wins in recent days, outscoring the Winnipeg Jets by a 5-3 margin Thursday and blowing away the San Jose Sharks in a 4-1 game Saturday.

Both games were played at home at the Climate Pledge Arena.

Jaden Schwartz scored the first and last goals against the Sharks in Saturday's action and Adam Larsson and Eeli Tolvanen struck in between.

Chandler Stephenson and Jamie Oleksiak both had two assists for the Kraken and Mason Marchment, Matty Beniers and Ryan Lindgren contributed one assist apiece.

Matt Murray started at goalie and had 20 saves in 21 attempts and Phillipp Grubauer came on in the end and had five saves in as many attempts.

Jordan Eberle put two goals into the net during Thursday's win over the Jets while Vince Dunn racked up one goal and two assists and Beniers had two assists.

Kappo Kakko and Tolvanen scored one goal apiece and other assists went to Larsson, Stephenson, Schwartz, Marchment and Ryan Winterton.

Grubauer recorded 24 saves in 27 attempts.

Seattle goes on the road now, visiting the Detroit Red Wings for a 4 p.m. Tuesday game before dropping in on the Chicago Blackhawks at 5 p.m. Thursday.

Seahawks

A late touchdown left Seattle two points shy at 21-19 in Sunday's showdown against the Rams in Los Angeles for first place in the NFC West Division.

The Seahawks fell to 7-3 for second place as the now first place Rams improved to 8-2.

Kenneth Walker III scored the touchdown with 2:23 remaining in the fourth quarter one a 1-yard run and Jason Myers kicked the extra point to put the score at its final margin.

Myers was busy kicking field goals before that.

He started the Seahawks off by booting a 57-yarder with 6:31 to play in the first quarter, then kicked a 30-yard attempt through at 9:04 to go in the second quarter and a 22-yard try as time expired in the half.

His 29-yard field goal with 8:02 to play in the third quarter closed the gap to 14-12.

But Los Angeles went up, 21-12, on a touchdown early in the fourth quarter after a Seattle turnover, then held on in spite of Walker's late score.

Walker carried the ball 16 times for 67 yards and the one touchdown as quarterback Sam Darnold completed 29 of 44 passes for 279 yards but had four interceptions.

Jaxon Smith-Njigba caught nine passes for 105 yards.

Seattle now visits the Tennessee Titans for a 10 a.m. Sunday game.

Thunderbirds

The Seattle Western Hockey League team dealt Prince Albert a 5-4 defeat Friday in its only action of this past weekend.

The Thunderbirds host Victoria for a 7:05 p.m. Friday game at the accesso Showare Center in Kent before entertaining Regina there at 6:05 p.m. Saturday.

Colleges

Husky football

Washington put away the Purdue Boilermakers by a 49-13 score Saturday to improve its season record to 7-3.

Adam Mohammed scored three rushing touchdowns to lead the way for the Huskies and Jordan Washington led with 108 rushing yards on five carries.

Quarterback Demond Williams completed 16 of 19 passes for 257 yards and two touchdowns and Decker DeGraaf caught five passes for a team-high 91 yards.

Mohammed started off the UW scoring with a 1-yard run with 3:30 to play in the first quarter and Grady Gross kicked his first of seven successful conversions in as many attempts.

Mohammed tacked on another 1-yard score at the 9:07 mark of the second quarter before Washington rumbled for a 68-yard touchdown at 7:05.

Mohammed came through with a 5-yard touchdown run with 55 seconds to go in the first half.

Williams connected with Audric Harris on a 61-yard pass play for another Huskies touchdown with 11:59 to go in the third.

Purdue got on the scoreboard with a field goal to make it a 35-3 game, but Williams answered with a 2-yard touchdown pass to Dezmen Roebuck at the 3:22 mark of the third quarter.

Kai Horton added a 2-yard touchdown run with 1:54 to play in the quarter to cap off the UW scoring.

The Huskies travel to Los Angeles to take on UCLA at 7:30 p.m. Saturday.

Cougar football

Washington State evened its overall record at 5-5 with a 28-3 victory over Louisiana Tech in Pullman this last Saturday.

Quarterback Zevi Eckhaus scored the first three touchdowns for the Cougars with the first coming on a 23-yard pass to Joshua Meredith with 8:51 showing on the first quarter clock.  Jack Stevens followed by kicking his first of four extra points to make it 7-0.

Eckhaus struck on a 7-yard run with 12:11 to play in the second quarter and added a 1-yard run with 13:30 remaining in the fourth quarter.

Kirby Vorhees ran for a 19-yard touchdown with 1:12 to go in the game.

Eckhaus completed 17 of 25 passes for 146 yards and one touchdown to go with his two rushing touchdowns.

Vorhees had 16 carries for 76 yards and one touchdown and Meredith five catches for 70 yards and one touchdown.

The Cougars are scheduled to pay a visit to James Madison at 10 a.m. Saturday.

Husky women's soccer

Washington opened NCAA playoff action with a 2-0 home victory over Montana this past Friday and advances to play Arkansas in Charlottesville, Va. this Thursday at a time to be announced.

Tanner Ijams earned the shutout on goal in the game against the Grizzlies of Missoula and Alex Buck scored both goals with the first coming on a Maylen Montoya assist and the second on an unassisted play.

Husky volleyball

The UW took a 22-25, 25-20, 25-16, 25-13 loss at Illinois on Friday but bounced back to beat Northwestern at home Sunday by a 25-12, 18-25, 25-20, 23-25, 15-11 score.

Kierstyn Barton and Simona Maleska led with 17 kills apiece Sunday and Alexa Markley added 14 kills.

Alexis Haury had 48 assists for the Huskies, who host Michigan for a 7 p.m. Thursday match and UCLA at the same time Saturday.

Husky vs. Cougar men's basketball

Washington posted an 81-69 victory at Friel Court in Pullman against the Cougars this past Friday.

Wesley Yates III paced the Huskies with 26 points as Zoom Dallo tossed in 20 and Hannes Steinbach scored 14 with a team-high 13 rebounds.

WSU was led by the 15 points of Eemeli Yalaho and the 12 points of Aaron Glass.  Emmanuel Ugo added 11 points and hauled down seven rebounds to lead the team.

The Huskies host Southern University for a 6:30 p.m. Tuesday game and the Cougars entertain Southern Utah at 8 p.m. Wednesday.

Husky women's basketball

The UW was a 72-61 winner Saturday at Utah with the help of 30 points from Seyvia Sellers.  Hannah Stines added 14 points and led with eight rebounds.

Fresno State will visit the Huskies for a 6 p.m. Wednesday game.

Cougar women's basketball

Washington State took a 54-46 loss to Stanford in a Friday home game.

Malia Ruud led the Cougars with 11 points and seven rebounds and Eleonora Villa hit 10 points.

Oregon travels to Pullman for a 4 p.m. Wednesday game.

Redhawk men's basketball

Seattle University scored an 83-74 victory over Idaho State on Saturday, led by the 22 points of Brayden Maldonado.

The Redhawks visit Stanford for 7 p.m. Friday action.

Redhawk women's basketball

Seattle University edged visiting Cal Poly, 75-73, in a Saturday game.

Andjela Bigovic led with 20 points and Tamia Stricklin had a team-high 10 rebounds.

The Redhawks hit the road to Boise State to play a 5:30 p.m. game Friday.

Falcon women's basketball

Seattle Pacific took a 75-63 loss to Cal State Los Angeles on Friday despite getting 18 points and seven rebounds from Grace Turley, but rebounded to defeat Dominguez Hills by a 64-61 score Saturday.

Turley and Layne Kearns led with 17 points each and Kearns also led with 11 rebounds.

Madison Rubino was next with 16 points.

SPU visits Occidental College for 7 p.m. Thursday action and goes to Azusa Pacific to play a 3 p.m. Friday game.

Falcon men's basketball

Seattle Pacific opened by taking an 80-71 loss to Chico State in Azusa on Saturday.

Julian Mora and Grant Coleman led the Falcons with 16 points apiece and Trace Evans added 10.

The Falcons entertain Evergreen State at 7 p.m. Friday at the Royal Brougham Pavilion.
