Pros

Mariners

Seattle split a pair of 3-2 games to open its American League Divisional Series against the Detroit Tigers.

The Mariners took a loss by that score in 11 innings as they opened the best of five series Saturday at T-Mobile Park but came back to win by the same margin the next day in nine.

Sunday was the first home playoff win for Seattle since it took the fifth and final divisional game against Cleveland in 2001.

The series is now knotted at 1-1 as it goes to Detroit for the next two games.

Action starts at 1:08 p.m. Tuesday and 12:08 p.m. Wednesday.

If the teams split those games, a fifth and deciding game will be played back in Seattle at 1:40 p.m. Friday.

Julio Rodriguez homered to centerfield in the bottom of the fourth inning to give the Mariners an early 1-0 lead Saturday, but the Tigers came right back with two in the top of the fifth.

Seattle tied it again at 2-2 as Rodriguez singled in Randy Arozarena after Cal Raleigh had singled him over to third, but Detroit won it with a run in the top of the 11th on a ground ball single up the middle.

Jorge Polanco hit two solo home runs for a 2-0 Seattle advantage Sunday, then the Tigers rallied to tie it in the top of the eighth.

Seattle scored the eventual game winner in the bottom of the inning, however, as Raleigh and Rodriguez hit back-to-back doubles.

Andres Munoz came on for the ninth inning and earned the save after working two innings the night before.

Luis Castillo started the game, tossing 4.2 scoreless innings before being relieved by Gabe Speier in the fifth.

Sounders

While the Mariners were taking Saturday's loss at T-Mobile Park the Seattle men's soccer team was winning, 1-0, over Portland across the street at Lumen Field.

Pedro de la Vega scored the only goal of the match for the Sounders in the 16th minute of play.

Seattle will be back at Lumen Field taking on Real Salt Lake at 6:30 p.m. this coming Saturday.

Seahawks

Seattle came up short, 38-35, to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers at Lumen Field this past Sunday, dropping its National Football League record to 3-2 as the Buccaneers improved to 4-1.

Tampa Bay won it on a 39-yard field goal by Chase McLaughlin as time expired in the fourth quarter.

The Buccaneers jumped out to an early 13-0 lead in the game before the Seahawks scored with six seconds left in the first half when Jaxon Smith-Njigba caught a 6-yard touchdown pass from Sam Darnold.  Jason Myers' kick for the extra point made it 13-7.

Myers' PAT gave Seattle a 14-13 advantage after Zach Charbonnet scored on a 5-yard run with 13:01 to go in the third quarter.

AJ Darner caught a 2-yard Darnold pass for the next Seahawks touchdown and Myers tied it at 21-21, then Darner snagged a 6-yard Darnold pass and Myers' kick made it 28-28.

Tory Horton gave Seattle the lead on a 21-yard pass from Darnold with 3:18 to play in the fourth quarter with Myers' kick making it 35-28.

But the Buccaneers answered to tie it at 35-35 with 1:08 remaining, got an interception, and won it on McLaughlin's kick as time expired.

Seattle returns to action this coming Sunday, visiting the Jacksonville Jaguars at 10 a.m.

Reign

The Seattle women's soccer team played to a scoreless tie in a visit to Gotham F.C. on Sunday.

The Reign plays again at 7:30 p.m. Friday at Lumen Field against the Bay FC squad.

The Kraken entertain the Las Vegas Golden Knights at the same time and place Saturday.

Seattle's Western Hockey League team outscored the Kamloops Blazers at home Friday, 7-4, but took a 10-4 plastering at Penticton on Saturday.

The Thunderbirds visit the Kelowna Rockets who started off in the 1990s in Tacoma at 7:05 p.m. Friday before coming home to the accesso Showare Center in Kent to battle Spokane at 6:05 p.m. Saturday.

Seattle travels over the Cascades to play a 4 p.m. game at Wenatchee on Sunday.

Washington bounced back for a 24-20 victory at Maryland this past Saturday after trailing, 20-0, early in the third quarter.

Dezman Roebuck caught a 34-yard touchdown pass from Williams and Gross kicked the PAT to make it 20-17, and Jonah Coleman scored the eventual game winner with 3:21 to play on a 2-yard run.  Gross' kick put the final margin at 24-20.
